At Elmbridge we believe in offering development and opportunities at all levels, which is why provide a range of options for those early on in their careers to get their first steps on the ladder.

Work experience

We know how important work experience is for those who are looking to take their first steps into a great career. A wide range of jobs are available in local government that give students the opportunity to develop their skills and gain invaluable experience of working life.

If you are a student who lives locally, or attends a school or college in the Borough, and you're interested in learning about how local government serves the community then we would be interested in hearing from you.

When contacting us about a work experience placement (of up to two weeks) please make sure you include the following:

  • an up-to-date CV (including the name and address of the school/college you attend, your date of birth and your home address)

  • the dates you are available to work

  • a brief paragraph on your work interests and aspirations

Apprenticeships

We believe that apprenticeships are an excellent opportunity, which allow you to gain valuable workplace experience while earning a salary. We provide our apprentices with a strong development programme that sees them working together as a team to deliver key Council projects. All our apprentices are assigned a mentor, and are able to take advantage of our commitment to learning and development as an employer.

Graduate management training programme

For recent graduates, we offer exciting opportunities to join our graduate management training programme.  With a starting annual salary of over £23,000, the two-year development programme is for candidates with the potential to become future senior managers.

From managing projects to drafting policy and strategy, you'll take on responsibility and make a real contribution towards improving the quality, accessibility and efficiency of public services in Elmbridge.

On the scheme, trainees undertake four six-month placements in key areas of the Council, giving them the opportunity to get involved with a variety of projects.  If you’re interested, look out for opportunities advertised here.
